Should I used hair products with nut oils if I am allergic to nuts?

I'm African American and I have dry, relaxed hair. So I constantly use oil in my hair. But I have always had issues with my hair breaking off and shedding badly. I am allergic to tree nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc) and I noticed that a lot of the products I use have a tree nut oil (usually sweet almond oil) in them. Even though I have never broken out or gotten sick because I used them, could they be the reason as to why my hair breaks off?

I don't know if that's what's causing your hair to break off, but it very well could be. You should see a dermatologist who could give you a definate answer.

In the meantime, try Perfect Results Oil Sheen. I checked the label and it doesn't appear to use any tree nut oils. Best of luck!

Different people have all sorts of reactions to allergies so your hair problem could be yours. However, I am no expert so I would advise you to talk to your hair dresser and if he/she doesn't know for sure, talk to your doctor

well most products do get absorbed through our skin, so if you're allergic to nuts be careful. it may be a sort of allergy. my niece had lost a lot of hair from an allergy to pool chlorine. it did grow back eventually but it was a trauma for her. why not try using a different product other than oil for a couple of weeks and see how it goes?

I think it depends weather your allergic to them just by eating it. But I figure that just by them going in through ur pores and roots of ur hair it could affect u. u should really see a specialist

you know, that's a good question. i wonder if frequent use on the scalp, sort of builds up. i guess what i mean is that, a person who is allergic to nuts, has a reaction after ingesting the nuts orally.............so, i wonder if over time the small amounts that would be absorbed by your skin would finally cause a reaction in you. i would think that if your hair is breaking, that is not the problem. that signifies a lack of something in your diet, essential to the health of your hair. or maybe you have been overprocessing with chemical products??? i am not a woman of color, but, i have always had very dry coarse hair. when i stopped coloring my hair, and stopped getting perms and such, and i started using olive oil products, my hair finally took on a life of it's own. it's beautiful and glossy and strong. i also keep it shorter, as the hairstylist told me that with heavier, coarse, longer hair, it's subject to more breakage because of the weight and the amount of work it takes to brush or comb, etc.

i hope that helps you out a little!

and stay away from those NUTS! (not just the tree variety either if you know what i mean!!!) :-)

You should consult a dermatologist or your doctor to answer the question about your allergy, but I suspect that one of you major concerns about your hair is lack of moisture. You need to do a lot of deep moisturizing conditioning treatments on your hair in order to get it back in good condition. Try the Mizani product line their treatments are very good.
