Hair Color, Race and Genetics...?

Awhile ago I got into a heated online argument with an individual that told me that only caucasion's can have natural red hair - I objected to that statement based on: 1. My mother who is "African American" from the reservations in Oklahoma had natural red hair (along with red skin and small red freckles. 2. I am African American and though not as much have blonde and red hairs. 3. I've seen many African American with the same phenotype characteristics. Her argument, the person that objects, is this is not possible and that only Europeans of Irish decent can have this trait. I've seen hispanics with this trait as well.

African Americans can have red hair because most African Americans aren't of pure genetic stock, many have European and Native American blood in them, so genetically, African Americans can have red hair, although an African straight from Africa probably will not have those genes.
