A big thank you to the women or men...?

regarding about African American hair...I don't know that much about the hair..and the differences...so I thought it would be a good thing to learn, and or to ask....thank you for answering so nicely! I really appreciate it! I would have asked my friend, but, I don't know if she would get upset with me or not....thanks!!!

Oh, and what is relaxer, and how does that work? and also, do you still use "hot combs"? or is that a thing of the wayyyy past?

and one more...how delicate is the hair...can it just break? or is it strong as well?

A big thank you to the women or men...?

Relaxer is a really strong chemical solution applied to the hair. Kind of like how a person would apply hair dye. It relaxes the curls in the hair. But it is really damaging because it weakens the hair and if you leave it in too long it can even make some chunks of hair fall out. It's very strong stuff.

Hot combs work and I know people with hot combs. Running a straightening iron through the hair works, too.

I'm not sure how to answer the delicate hair question. If you've ever seen someone get their hair braided it's not exactly treated gently. It's pulled very tight and yanked around. And it's still on their head after! :) But I liked the answer you got in one of your other questions about hair... the one where the woman explained tenderheaded to you?

A big thank you to the women or men...?

both

A big thank you to the women or men...?

Look...most intelligent black women soon come to realize that their hair really looks like s**t..thats why they begin to try and make it look like a white womans...straight,blonde,long,wavy,smoot... name it you will see them either trying to make theirs look like it,or cutting theirs very short and buying white appearing wigs.....if I am wrong I will admit it but then why is the black to white hair industry at 9.6 billion a yr and there are shops that cater to the trade on every street?...riddle me that batboy

Do relaxers wear off ?

I've applied relaxers twice and I'm never doing it again...

But I would like to if they wear off ?

Also how many times a week should I condition my hair ?

I wash my hair once a week with shampoo and every other day with water..

I don't have African American hair btw.

Do relaxers wear off ?

no they do not wear off or grow out...they do not wear off because relaxers chemically alter your hair, breaking the bonds therefore loosening the curl to produce straight hair. they don't grow out, but if you choose to stop relaxing new growth will come in, and if not taken care of properly it will cause the hair to break off at the meeting of the different hair textures. You can condition your hair as much as needed. You have to do what you feel is right for your hair. I rinse my hair with water too. Water is the best moisturizer, unless it's hard water then it can cause damage.

Do relaxers wear off ?

NOOOOOOOO RELAXERS DON'T WEAR OFF

and when you Wash your hair you need to use shampoo and conditioner

Do relaxers wear off ?

yes, relaxers do wear off eventually. But if u go to a hairdresser they can make the process quicker somehow. Washing your hair 1 a week is a little bit too little, i would do it twice a week, and condition once out of that 2.

Hope it helps!

~Becca

Do relaxers wear off ?

No, relaxers are a permenant change in ur hairs structure. They only can grow out. Shampooing is hurtful to damaged hair if u dont condition well and wetting it often is detrimental as well b/c it opens up the cuticles for which allows the cortex in the center to dry out easily. The cortex is the heart of the hair and the cuticle is there to protect it. Any chemical process rearranges the chemical structure of the hair, mainly the cuticle so the cortex is left exposed. Sorry if this is confusing, but i wouldnt relax my hair again either.

How do i keep my hair flat all day ?

i am african american and i recently started straightening my hair , i would love to wear it down but it starts getting poufy and fluffy a little while after i straighten it with the flat iron so right up into a b un it goes . Any tips , tricks or products that will keep it flat and bone straight ? it would be a bonus if any products conditioned too . :)

How do i keep my hair flat all day ?

Well, a lot of times where you live plays a role in the reason your hair gets frizzy again. If you live where there is a lot of humidity, you can forget trying to get rid of frizz..there is just too much moister in the air. However, consider that many black women have many different types of hair. Some hair is just too brittle for flat irons to work..also, your temperature settings may be too low, or your technique is bad. When you flatten your hair, start at the root, and slowly glide the iron down to the ends. You may need to repeat the motion on a section of hair to really get it straight. Also, if you are just starting to straighten your hair, you need to give it time. It is called "training". In other words..your hair will need time to adjust to straightening. So of course for a while your hair wont be as straight as you want..but over time, it will begin to look more the way you want it.

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

What was the name of the actress on Diff'rent Strokes that played Arnold and Dudley's teacher. I don't remember what season but her (real) last name was Kennedy. She was very pretty, long hair, African American. I already looked her up on imdb and they don't have her listed in the cast, but she was on several episodes.

I saw her a number of years back hosting a pageant or something on TV, she had gained a bit of weight and she appeared to have a bit of a shakiness, like maybe Parkinsons, perhaps.

Does anyone remember who I'm talking about? What's her first name?

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

I think you're talking about Jayne Kennedy.

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

no

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

Do you remember the character's name?

I think the actress is Pearl Gallagher.

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

I want to agree with "Sonya" I also think that it was Jayne Kennedy

Can anyone remember the name of the actress...?

Yes it was Jayne Kennedy.

The only condition that I read about her having is endometriosis but I never heard of that causing the shakiness.

But you never know.

I need help with my dry hair?

To start off i'm an African American male and I decided to start growing my hair May 2007 so far it's going okay. I'm using this hair chemical called Braid Sheen Spray which helps to soften and condition my hair. It's just that my hair is always dry and hard which makes it brittle and it does break off. I just want to know if you guys have any types of lotions or something that you use that keeps your hair soft and maintain moisture? Remember i'm african american so I need a product that will work for me. Thanx

I need help with my dry hair?

when u wash ur hair and put on conditioner let it sit here for like 10 min... it worked 4 me

I need help with my dry hair?

really try to find a different gel to make your hair smooth because what your using is hurting your hair alot! Theres many products out there, goodd luck.

I need help with my dry hair?

I don't know everyone hair is different, but I know lots of people with dreads and braids, and they use lots of different products. I would first suggest you check with some one that specializes in braids and dreads etc, they are the experts, and know just what is needed for your type of hair. On a personal note, I would suggest no products with alcohol in it, something all natural, and easy going on the hair, maybe something specifically for " our ". I think a hot oil treatment, once a week, would be perfect for dry unmanageable hair. I would stop using the BSS for now, and try something else, that is less abrasive, this is probably the problem this item is to strong for your type of hair. You need something gentle, soft , moisturizing, etc. A good overall spray for your hair that I've used and my friend has used on his braids/dreads is the Olive Oil spray. Great price, great smell, love the product. Hope this help.

I need help with my dry hair?

African American hair can be hard to manage but the "Fresh Look Products Hair BodipHier System" is the most innovative hair product line on the market can keeps hair healthier and gives it more body than traditional relaxers. The system contains the highest quality products available for relaxing and maintaining hair. The Hair BodipHier System is the safest way to permanently relax %26amp; moisturize hair.

Good luck!! :)

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a

I currently have THICK medium length, relaxed, african american hair. It grows very long though and I plan on growing it out again so I need something that will do well with long, thick hair. Nothing volumizing, please! Also, I have a CHI but lately the plates have been snagging my hair and pulling it out; so, now i'm looking to go up from there.

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a Sedu!?

i have neither, i have a solia and i LOVE it. i got my sister one for christmas too and it works magic on her super thick hair! go to: www.folica.com and it'll help you decide because there's a million reviews on there! good luck :)

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a Sedu!?

I just saw an article in In Style recomending HAI for thick, hard to style hair. I use a $15 one from Vidal Sasson that I got from an aunt for Christmas a couple years ago, and honestly, I love. The plates are really wide (almost 3 inches!) and it gets really hot.

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a Sedu!?

get a chi they r the best my sister is a hair dresser so i know alot about hair so the chi works really well cause my hair is kind of curly in the morning it take the curls right out

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a Sedu!?

I hava a HAI and I Iove it. It's the best that I've ever tried. But make sure to save your box, because you have a lifetime warranty on it.

Hi, I'm stuck on which straightening iron to get! I don't know if I should get a Hai or a Sedu!?

Depending on how much you're willing to pay, I would buy the MAXIglide straightening iron. I'm 13 and have very curly hair. My mom saw it on HSN(Home Shopping Network) and it works so great! It works on all hair textures and types. It does provide volume, but don't worry because it comes with and extra plate to switch out to reduce that. The MAXIglide package my mom purchased also came with a MINIglide, shampoo, and conditioner. It has 1-10 settings(depending on your hair type), it heats very fast, and only takes me a short while to do my hair. I love it. =]]
