Mixed kids hair?

My niece I watch a lot is mixed but her hair texture is more of African American even though the color is blonde. it is fine at top and coarse underneath. Actually The only thing my sister does is put it in a pony tail but I want to know some cute styles to do to her hair that she can keep in it for a few days because her curls come out of the ponytail and looks rough. Also, what products would be good to keep on her hair. It gets washed every other day and use soft n precious hair creme for babies. She is 3.

I'm sure you already know by now to be gentle. :) This includes using a wide-tooth come and combing your niece's hair when it's wet.

You can give her some adorable barrettes or headbands to wear. Or...Just style it loosely and let her wear it out.

As for products, look for those without alcohol. You might want to use a light gel or styling cream. Stay away from oil-based products.

Contrary to what many people say, a lot of hair products marketed to the African American market can be damaging. Be careful.

Also, be careful about pulling her hair back too tightly. Doing so repeatedly could ruin her hairline.

Above all: Say "NO" to using chemicals. That's the greatest advice I think anyone could give you.

My son is bi racial and his daughter is from a bi racial mother. My granddaughter hair is the hardest thing I have had to do! I usually don't even touch it. My best friend is black so she usually will come over and do her hair. She has more experience with it. Take her to a black owned beauty parlor where the women there know all the cute styles. That's how I had to learn.

Take her to a Beauty Salon for Black Hair. They will teach you. haha my friend said "it was the only way to learn how to control my hair."

haha I'm mixed too and i usually just get my hair done at a salon.

I am biracial and it has been a long journey. I finally have my hair the way I want it. You want to be careful with her hair. Like don't brush it comb it when it is dry. Her hair is most fragile when wet. A wide tooth comb should be used. Some good websites for curly is forum.blackhairmedia.com, naturallycurly.com, and happycurls.com. They have tons of information about ethnic hair. They also have tons of different product discussion you can look into too. It is hard to say what you should use on her hair, but those websites should help.
